Expert Meeting on Digitalization and Grid Integration

On 27th and 28th of August 2020 a virtual expert meeting took place in preparation of the second Energy Transition Working Group Meeting. The event was organized by adelphi, BSW Solar and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (AHK Japan) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and with support of the Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The meeting consisted of three sessions on two days with interesting presentations and intensive discussions from Japanese and German experts concerning the theme “Digitization and Grid Integration of Renewables in Japan and Germany”.

The objective of day one was to inform the participants about the current political developments on system integration of renewables in Germany and Japan as well as comparing the status and plans of digitalization of the energy transition in both countries. The second day’s meeting contained two sessions with technology related themes. While the first session provided companies from both countries a forum to present technical solutions, the second session focused on blockchain strategies for energy transition.

The two-day expert meeting allowed to detect a range of potential topics for future exchange and cooperation, such as artificial intelligence in the energy sector, privacy and data security, and regulatory frameworks, plans and projects in the field of “decentralization and prosumers” including the topics demand-response as well as home storage, heat pumps and charging of electric vehicles.
